936513 LBSCR Stroudley ‘E1’ 0-6-0T No. 3 Ryde, Southern Black, ‘Sunshine' Lettering - Steam Tank Locomotive - DCC Sound

Rapido Trains UK is to fill a big gap in the ranks of ‘OO’ gauge Southern models with the Stroudley ‘E1’ 0-6-0T.

Following the success of the ‘Terrier’, Stroudley provided the London Brighton & South Coast Railway with a dedicated passen-ger version – the ‘D’ 0-4-2T – in 1873. A goods version appeared the following year. This was the ‘E’, later called ‘E1’.

They might have looked like a stretched version of the ‘Terrier’ but they carved out a niche as a strong and capable performer.

Built: 1874 (78 built)

How long did they last? The last Isle of Wight example, No. 4 Wroxall, was withdrawn in October 1960 while the last ‘E1’ used on the main-land, No. 32694, was not condemned until July 1961.

Where did they work? Through-out the LBSCR system, the Isle of Wight and Southampton docks.

Can I see one? No. B110 is based at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.

Here’s the specification of our ‘OO’ gauge model:

  • Designed from original works drawings and a wealth of photographic material
  • Isle of Wight condition
  • Southern black with ‘Sunshine’ lettering
